Adult-Use Cannabis

โ–พ

Key Differences from Medical Use

  • Age: 21+ for adult-use vs 18+ for medical (with physician certification)
  • Tax: Adult-use subject to cultivation excise tax; medical exempt from certain local taxes
    • No state sales tax in Alaska regardless of category
  • Purchase limits: Same 1 oz per transaction for both categories at retail
  • Home cultivation: Both medical and adult-use adults may grow up to 6 plants

Local Ordinances

  • Opt-out permitted: Municipalities may ban retail sales (many rural communities opted out)
    • Wasilla banned retail sales
    • Fairbanks and Juneau allow retail with local licensing
  • On-site consumption: Some municipalities permit cannabis consumption lounges with AMCO approval
  • Delivery: Not permitted for consumer delivery; transporter licence required for B2B
  • Home cultivation permitted in all municipalities regardless of retail ban
