This Cookie Policy explains how CannBus.org uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website and B2B platform. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Section 01

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer, tablet, or mobile device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, to remember your preferences and settings, and to provide website operators with information about how visitors use their sites.

Cookies are not programs — they cannot carry viruses, install malware, or execute code on your device. They simply store information as a text string associated with a domain, which your browser sends back to that domain on subsequent visits.

💡
How Cookies Work on CannBus

When you visit CannBus.org, our server sends a small cookie file to your browser. On your next visit, your browser sends that cookie back to us, allowing us to recognise you, restore your session, recall your preferences, and measure how our platform is being used. Cookies make your experience faster, more personalised, and more secure.

Cookie-Like Technologies

In addition to traditional cookies, we may also use the following similar technologies, which this policy covers equally:

  • Web Beacons (Pixel Tags): Tiny transparent images embedded in web pages or emails that signal when a page has been viewed or an email opened
  • Local Storage & Session Storage: Browser storage mechanisms used to retain data for the duration of a browser session (session storage) or across sessions (local storage) without an expiry date being sent from the server
  • JavaScript Tags: Small snippets of code embedded in our pages to collect data for analytics or personalisation purposes
  • Device Fingerprinting: Collecting device-specific attributes (browser version, screen resolution, installed fonts, etc.) to create a probabilistic identifier — used solely for security and fraud-prevention purposes on our platform

Section 02

How We Use Cookies

CannBus uses cookies and similar technologies to pursue several legitimate purposes in connection with operating our B2B cannabis industry platform:

  • Platform Operation: To keep you logged into your member account, maintain your session state across pages, and ensure the platform functions correctly as you navigate between business profiles, product catalogs, and publications
  • Security & Fraud Prevention: To detect and prevent suspicious activity, bot traffic, credential stuffing attacks, and other security threats against member accounts and the platform
  • Preference Memory: To remember your settings, filters, display preferences, and notification choices so you do not need to re-enter them on each visit
  • Performance Measurement: To understand which features and pages are most used, how members navigate the platform, where they encounter difficulties, and how we can improve the experience
  • B2B Lead Generation Features: To power features such as "recently viewed suppliers," saved searches, and profile tracking within the lead generation toolset
  • Publication & Content Personalisation: To remember which market reports or legal summaries you have accessed, and to suggest relevant publications based on your browsing history within the platform
  • Marketing Communications: To measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns and, where you have consented, to deliver relevant advertising about CannBus features and services on third-party platforms

Section 03

Section 05

Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You have the right to decide which non-essential cookies CannBus places on your device. Use the preference panel below to enable or disable each category. Essential cookies cannot be disabled as they are required for the platform to function.

Your Preferences Are Respected

When you save your preferences above, CannBus stores your choices in the cb_cookie_consent cookie for 1 year. We will not place optional cookies if you have not consented. You can change your preferences at any time by returning to this section or contacting us at support@cannbus.org.

Section 06

Browser-Level Cookie Controls

In addition to using the preference panel above, you can control cookies directly through your browser settings. All major browsers provide controls to view, delete, and block cookies. Please note that blocking all cookies may break core platform functionality.

Browser How to Manage Cookies
Google Chrome Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
Mozilla Firefox Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
Apple Safari Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
Microsoft Edge Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
Opera Settings → Advanced → Privacy & Security → Cookies
iOS Safari Settings → Safari → Privacy & Security → Block All Cookies
Android Chrome Chrome menu → Settings → Privacy → Clear Browsing Data / Site Settings
⚠️
Blocking All Cookies Will Affect Your CannBus Experience

If you block all cookies at the browser level, you will not be able to log in to your CannBus member account, your preferences will not be saved, and essential security features such as CSRF protection will not function correctly. We recommend using the CannBus Cookie Preference Centre above to selectively disable only the categories you do not want, rather than blocking all cookies.

Section 07

Third-Party Services & Their Cookies

CannBus integrates with a number of third-party services to power our platform's features. Each of these providers may set their own cookies when their components are active on our pages. Below is a summary of the key third-party services whose cookies may appear on CannBus.org, along with links to their privacy and cookie policies.

Provider Purpose on CannBus Cookie Type Learn More
Google Analytics Platform usage analytics and performance measurement Analytics Google Privacy Policy
Stripe Secure processing of membership subscription payments Essential Stripe Privacy Policy
Meta (Facebook) Pixel Marketing campaign measurement (consent required) Marketing Meta Privacy Policy
Google Ads / Tag Manager Advertising conversion tracking (consent required) Marketing Google Privacy Policy
LinkedIn Insight Tag Professional audience advertising (consent required) Marketing LinkedIn Privacy Policy

CannBus is not responsible for the cookies set by these third-party services, nor for how they use the data they collect. We recommend reviewing each provider's privacy policy for full details of their data practices.

Section 08

Members & Logged-In Users

CannBus members who have created accounts and are logged into the platform have additional session-related cookies active during their authenticated session. These cookies power features specific to the B2B membership experience:

  • Session Authentication: Your login state is maintained by a secure, HTTP-only session cookie that prevents JavaScript from accessing your authentication token, reducing the risk of cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks
  • Saved Supplier Views: Your recently viewed business profiles and supplier searches are tracked in a functional cookie to power "recently viewed" shortcuts in the member dashboard
  • Product Catalog History: Cookies help us track which product catalogs you have browsed within the platform, enabling features like "Continue where you left off" and related catalog suggestions
  • Publication Access: When you access a market report or cannabis law summary, a functional cookie records your access to prevent duplicate download limits and restore your reading position
  • Lead Generation Tools: Cookies support features such as flagged suppliers, contact tracking within the lead generation toolset, and pipeline management within your member account
🔐
Member Cookie Security

Authentication cookies on CannBus are set as HTTP-only and Secure, which means they can only be transmitted over HTTPS and cannot be accessed by JavaScript on the page. This significantly reduces the risk of session hijacking. We also use SameSite cookie attributes to help prevent cross-site request forgery. These security measures are part of our essential cookie infrastructure and cannot be disabled.

When you log out of your CannBus account, your session authentication cookie is immediately invalidated. Functional cookies storing your preferences remain but no longer contain any authentication data.

Section 09

Do Not Track (DNT) Signals

Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that sends a signal to websites requesting that they do not track the user's browsing behaviour. There is currently no industry-wide standard for interpreting or responding to DNT signals.

As of the date of this policy, CannBus does not currently alter its data collection or cookie behaviour in response to DNT signals, because no consistent, interoperable standard for doing so has been established. If a standard is adopted in the future, we will revisit this position and update this policy accordingly.

We encourage you to use the CannBus Cookie Preference Centre (Section 5) to set your specific preferences — this is currently the most reliable way to control which non-essential cookies are placed on your device when using our platform.

ℹ️
Global Privacy Control (GPC)

The Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a browser setting that signals a user's preference to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal data under regulations such as the CCPA/CPRA. CannBus does not sell personal data. Where technically feasible, we will seek to honour GPC signals for applicable opt-out rights under California law.

Section 10

Updates to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the cookies we use, new features we deploy, changes in applicable law, or changes in industry best practice for cookie management.

  • Quarterly Review: We review this cookie inventory (Section 4) at least quarterly and update the "Last Updated" date whenever changes are made
  • Material Changes: If we introduce new cookie categories (e.g., adding marketing cookies for the first time, or integrating a new analytics provider), we will notify registered members via email and display a new consent banner on the website
  • Minor Changes: For minor updates (adding or removing individual cookies within existing categories), we update this page and the cookie table but do not re-send consent requests
  • Previous Consents: Changes to the types of optional cookies we use may require us to collect fresh consent from you — in such cases, the consent banner will re-appear on your next visit

We recommend bookmarking this page and checking it periodically. The date shown at the top always reflects when the policy was last changed.
